Knitting Long Johns

I’m knitting myself a pair of long johns.
Late November, after digging and pulling up the last of the carrots in my bush garden, I went down to the dock to wash the extensive mud off my 100%, green woolen mittens. I kept them on as I washed them off, and to my great surprise, the water felt cool, but not cold through the mittens.
So, as an experiment, I kept the wet mittens on for awhile just to see how cold my hands and fingers would get. They never did become cold.
So, there is my case for woolen long johns! My hope is that they will keep me warm like a woolen sweater or mittens, and should I sweat wearing them, my lower body won’t become cold.
I found a really neat pattern from the 1960’s in my book, “The Opinionated Knitter, Newsletters 1958-1968." by Elizabeth Zimmerman. She mentions that the “lady leggings” are less time consuming to knit than a sweater. So far, so good.
I’m already on the second leg.
