Wild blue berries picked in the Norther Ontario Bush

Wild Blueberry Muffins

Each summer, somewhere around late July, I grab anyone who will come with me and run down the road scouring the bush for wild blueberries. We look mostly for areas that have been forested and are in a state of regrowth. We often take along a bug net, granola bars, water pails and a bear whistle. The crop of blueberries depends upon the summer weather. A fair amount of rain and pollinators are needed. We surmise that the black flies make the best polinators, but we could be wrong! We may come back to camp with anywhere from 0 to two gallons of blueberries given any one one year. I invented this wild blueberry recipe several years ago because it not only tastes delicious, it requires only 3/4 C of blueberries! (A pie takes four.)
